2006 was a noteworthy year for us. Memorial United was 100!
A committee was set up in 2005 to organize various activities to be held throughout the year to mark this important milestone in our history. The slogan "We Are Celebrating"! was adopted along with a logo that was used on banners, booklets, brochures, newsletters, you name it!
Our Wall of Celebration was officially begun in January. A congregational banquet was held in February with special guests and an anniversary cake. The guitar group also organized a fun night in the spring which was enjoyed by all. To get the children involved in the celebrations, Sunday School kids were asked to draw a picture of the church as they see it. Their drawings were then published on the bulletin cover each Sunday morning for several months. The ladies of the UCW held a "Mad Hatter" tea party in March in the CE Centre.
Other events in the spring included a Gospel Sing-along with the Guitar Group, a Sankey Sunday morning Service, which featured music contained in the Sankey hymnbook and presented by the Church Choir and Men's Choir; and a variety show in late May. An "In Memoriam" service was held in May and broadcast over VOCM. The UCW held a Quilt Display which was quite a success, along with a Seniors' afternoon tea in May.
Early in July, a junior choir reunion was held. Members of that choir consisted of several mother-and-daughter combinations which demonstrated the span of years the junior choir covered. During the town's Salmon Festival, the UCW held a very successful brunch. This was held in conjunction with a men's crafts sale event.
In August, a fun golf tournament was organized and proved very popular among the participants. A "Welcome Back" event was held in September. During Thanksgiving a Jiggs Dinner was held. In November an Anniversary Banquet was held at the Royal Canadian Legion. The history booklet "A Century of Faith and Service" was launched at that time.
During Advent, the young people enjoyed a pizza party as they prepared for our annual "Hanging of the Greens" service. The last event for the year was a pot luck supper on New Year's Eve with approximately 70 people present.

The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor celebrated its Centennial Year in 2005. A Choir was formed to mark that occasion and the Centennial Choir performed at Memorial United for our 99th Anniversary on Saturday evening in November, 2005.
